Hmmmm, that is odd. It's usually all or nothing. Have you tried
updating your sound drivers? I think I remember you mentioning that
you had a Sound Blaster card? If so, they have a Windows Update-like
web app that can check your driver version for you:

What is really odd is that these emulators used to have sound!
I have no idea what changed.

Are you sure you just don't have the sound turned off?

At one point I tried to install the MS-DOS drivers for getting sound
from the older DOS-based version of MAME in REAL mode. It didn't
work :D My guess is that's when the problem started. The thing is,
MAME knows which soundcard you have. It's listed in the ini file which
one one you want to use. If you don't specify which one to use, most
versions of MAME will ask you to enter the information in before
running a ROM. The console emus never requested this information as
far as I can remember.

It's been a while since I've messed with any of my emus, but I am
pretty sure most of them are bootable. I don't know if I just got
lucky and downloaded a version that had that built in, or I managed to
get the boot thing to into the image(it's been a long time since I
messed with it). Even if not, the Utopia disc isn't too bad...it's
just annoying to have to pop it in everytime you want to play
something like that.

I used the DOS bootkit to burn a DC CD with SMS+ and miracle warriors
on it. Unfortunately, it didn't work with nester or dreamsnes. I'll
check out bootdreams
tonight. Swapping CDs in and out really got old in a hurry.

It depends...I mean, if you're constantly playing different emus, then
yeah. If you're just sticking with one emu and a disc full of
roms...man you could be playing that for hours. ***, I still break
out Nester from time to time and end up spending hours just trying out
games I had never played before. ;)

Well, DREAMSNES was really annoying the heck out of me. NESTER at
least doesn't require you to continuously swap the game disc in every
time you want to try a different ROM. And then there was that annoying
Bubblehead music...

Beats of Rage looks like a fighting game. I'll pass :b

Damn. I wasn't able to get the roms on the game cds for any of the
other emus besides sms+.
I tried everything. Nothing worked. At one point I tried burning the
emulator image to create a bootable
dreamcast CD, and then I went back later and added the roms to the CD.
This rendered the disc
unusable (or at least unbootable) for some reason.

I ordered an adapter that lets you hook up a PC keyboard or a
playstation controller to the DC. That should
be pretty cool.
