Re: Unemployed Dreamcast looking for work: Can Dreamcast Mame play these ROMS?

Jeez...what exactly do you do to these machines!? I've yet to ever have
a computer just die on me(though I've had hard drives die, and other
components). ;)

It seems like they just die. I remember one machine I had, I damaged
the hard drive while experimenting with assembly language programming.
Then something happened when I was inside the thing trying to put a
new drive into it. That was the end of that one ;b

I don't even remember what happened to my last one. The one I have now
I got for free, so whatever.

Must have been some intense code. ;)

We're all hoping for that...but honestly I just don't know that it will
ever happen. In the meantime, you could always try that "Beats of Rage"
if you want. :)

I ran across a reference to that on the net. Maybe I will try it.

It's ok...I don't find it to be as unbelievably awesome as most people
do...

For
some reason I have no sound in most of my PC emulators right now. MAME
and its clones have sound, but then I try to run my NES or Genesis
emulators and there is no sound. PCs are just weird.

Hmmmm, that is odd. It's usually all or nothing. Have you tried
updating your sound drivers? I think I remember you mentioning that
you had a Sound Blaster card? If so, they have a Windows Update-like
web app that can check your driver version for you:

http://ucms.creative.com/document/su.asp
(unfortunately you'll have to use IE to get that to work)

Or you can do it the old school way:

http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/

I'm hoping I can figure out how to burn bootable dreamcast CDs next. I
downloaded some type of kit with dos utilities (bin2boot), but I
couldn't get it to work. I must have been doing something wrong. The
instructions were rather vague.

It's been a while since I've messed with any of my emus, but I am
pretty sure most of them are bootable. I don't know if I just got
lucky and downloaded a version that had that built in, or I managed to
get the boot thing to into the image(it's been a long time since I
messed with it). Even if not, the Utopia disc isn't too bad...it's
just annoying to have to pop it in everytime you want to play
something like that.
