A long while back, this one online site had a shitload of those "rental"
manuals that consist of basically just one page, pure text form. I
downloaded all of them, for the hell of it, let me check tonight and
I'll see if I have one for Populous. If so, I'll let you know. :)

Thank you. I greatly appreciate it.

I've got it, just shoot me an email and I'll reply with the manual. In
the meantime, I'll see how this goes(the manual is in html form)...I can
only dream how it'll turn out:

up, or down
PLAYING THE GAME
You are a deity, (God), and must use your power and omnipotent wisdom to
create worlds where good can prevail over evil. A STATUS SCREEN, (WORLD
TO CONQUER), appears at the beginning of each stage showing the name of
the level, the BATTLE NUMBER of the level (stage number), the type of
LANDSCAPE the world is composed of, EVIL'S REACTIONS, EVIL'S RATING,
LAND BUILT ON (people, towns, etc.), THE SWAMPS ARE (bottomless or
shallow), WATER IS (fatal or harmful), the POPULATION, a list of powers
and whether or not they will work for YOU or EVIL. Use the control pad
to move the cursor to START GAME and press the START BUTTON. The BOOK OF
WORLDS is exhibited on the upper left corner of the game screen and
shows a miniature rendering of the world map. Your location on the BOOK
OF WORLDS is designated by the white +. White dots represent good
settlements of people. Black dots represent evil settlements of people,
(these numbers will grow as gameplay progresses). Protruding from the
center of the BOOK OF WORLDS, and running across the screen at a 45o
angle, is a row of eight symbols mounted on a ramp of bars. A command
arrow is fixed to the top bar of the ramp. This ramp is called the MANNA
BAR and each symbol on the bar represents a command. The commands on the
MANNA BAR are, (from top left to right), RAISE AND LOWER LAND, PLACE
PAPAL MAGNET, EARTHQUAKE, SWAMP, KNIGHT, VOLCANO, FLOOD, and ARMAGEDDON.
At the beginning of each level the command arrow is positioned toward
the far left side of the MANNA BAR. As you develop settlements and
obtain followers the command arrow will begin to move to the right side
of the MANNA BAR, (you may execute any command on the MANNA BAR that is
in alignment with or appears to the left of the command arrow, NOTE:
Commands are not issued from the MANNA BAR. Commands are issued from the
COMMAND DISPLAY). A SHIELD is exhibited directly above the MANNA BAR. A
CLOSE-UP SCREEN is exhibited directly below the MANNA BAR and shows a
close-up view of the land that is designated by the white + on the BOOK
OF WORLDS. Directly below the CLOSE-UP SCREEN is the COMMAND DISPLAY,
(icons). Each icon, (symbol), represents a command. The commands are,
(from top left to right), FLOOD, ARMAGEDDON, EARTHQUAKE, move 45o up and
to the left, move up, move 45o up and to the right, ? (use shield),
RETURN TO THE PAPAL MAGNET, and view KNIGHTS. The next row down shows
VOLCANO, KNIGHT, move left, SHIELD, move right, RAISE AND LOWER LAND,
and FIGHT THEN SETTLE. The next row down shows SWAMP, move 45o down and
to the left, move down, move 45o down and to the right, and PLANT THE
PAPAL MAGNET. The next row shows GO TO THE PAPAL MAGNET, SETTLE, and
GATHER AND SETTLE. The last icon, (crossed swords), is FIGHT AND SETTLE,
(NOTE: The icon to the right of the CLOSE-UP SCREEN, (ZZZ), is used to
pause the game). At the beginning of the game land masses will
materialize in the WORLD BOOK. Use the control pad to move the hand,
(cursor), around the game screen. Position the hand over the directional
arrows shown on the COMMAND DISPLAY and press the A or C BUTTONS to move
around the map of the world, (NOTE: Press the B BUTTON and control pad
simultaneously and you will quickly scroll through the CLOSE UP VIEW of
the world map). People who appear on the CLOSE-UP SCREEN are called
WALKERS, (each WALKER represents a number of people). A WALKER who is
carrying a small PAPAL MAGNET is a LEADER. As you scroll across the
CLOSE-UP SCREEN you will find the terrain varies from flat land to
hills, mountains, and valleys. The first thing you should do is plant
the PAPAL MAGNET. To plant the PAPAL MAGNET find an area on the CLOSE-UP
SCREEN within reasonable proximity to a WALKER or settlement. Next use
the control pad to position the hand, (cursor), over the PLANT THE PAPAL
MAGNET command on the COMMAND DISPLAY. Press the A BUTTON then move the
hand, (cursor), over the CLOSE-UP SCREEN, (a white + will appear on the
CLOSE-UP SCREEN). Once the + is in the desired position press the A
BUTTON to PLANT THE PAPAL MAGNET. The PAPAL MAGNET is a shrine which is
used as a point of reference for good people, (a skull is the shrine
worshipped by evil people). When you use the command GO TO THE PAPAL
MAGNET good people will migrate to the location of the PAPAL MAGNET.
Once you have planted the PAPAL MAGNET press the A and C BUTTONS to
raise or lower the land designated by the + on the CLOSE-UP SCREEN. You
must create level, flat land so your people can establish settlements
and prosper. Settlements will begin as log cabins and grow into castles
and cities as you flatten out the land. As your settlements grow, the
settlements of evil will also be increasing in number and strength,
(good settlements fly a BLUE flag. Evil settlements fly a RED flag). As
your population increases the MANNA BAR will gain power and you will be
able to use VOLCANOES, EARTHQUAKES, or FIGHT AND SETTLE to reduce the
size of the evil population. If you create a FLOOD the entire world will
be flooded and your settlements, as well as those of evil, will be
destroyed. Using the ? command from the COMMAND DISPLAY will allow you
to assess the development of your settlements. Use the control pad to
position the shield beneath a flag or WALKER and press the A BUTTON. The
weaponry, (fist, stone, club, bow, sword, etc.), and strength of the
WALKER or settlement will be displayed on the large shield appearing
above the MANNA BAR. Once the MANNA BAR is fully charged use the
ARMAGEDDON command and the forces of good and evil will wage a
cataclysmic battle. If good prevails you will advance to a different
world. NOTE: It is recommended you study the DEMONSTRATION SCREEN at
length to familiarize yourself with the game.

Eh, I just think the average seller does not know how to grade. They
look at the artwork on the front and if it looks good, they think it
is mint. There is so much more to consider. You have to look for small
scratches and sticky residue and what-not on the front and back. More
importantly, the circuit board and edge connectors have to be
examined. Heavily used Nintendo carts have skinny circuit boards
whereas heavily used Genesis carts still have thick circuit boards,
but the edge connectors scratch off like scratch and sniff lottery
tickets :D

Indeed. Another thing I am noticing lately are the abundance of carts
that have *rust* on the contacts. How they manage that, I'm not sure...

Bel, I sent you an email :D

I tried out Beast Wrestler last night. It's OK. I wouldn't qualify it
as fun, more like interesting (at least for a while.) Tons of
hilarious grammatical and typographical errors in the text-based
dialog. The cart is pretty cool looking.

Jewel Master is kick ass. I got up to the second level last night.
And I picked up Light Crusader last night. Looks like another good
one. I could have had last battle, but I need to go and check if it
is a fighting game.
