Re: Petition to Microsoft to get Sega games up on the 360!

Don't let wicked sales figures get the first *and* last laughs! I'm
telling Microsoft that if the Xbox 360 doesn't support these titles,
there's likely not going to be any room in my cabinet for it next to my
hulking, monstrous, box full of bricks that is my original Xbox. Being
able to play these titles in 480i is better than not at all.

Microsoft is pretty much done with the backwards compatibility thing.

Agreed.

To be fair, Microsoft never really said it would be anything beyond the
"top games" for the system - media and fanboy hype took over and spun it
out of control. But MS certainly didn't do anything to put a stop to
those rumors until a couple weeks ago.

Peter Moore issued a statement saying they "promised too little and
delivered too much".

For those who missed it, and may be interested, the actual statement:

"Nobody is concerned anymore about backwards compatibility. We under promised
and over delivered on that. It's a very complicated thing... very complex
work. I'm just stunned that we have hundreds of games that are backwards
compatible."

He added: "more are coming, but at some point, you just go, there's enough,
let's move on, or people aren't as worried about a game being backwards
compatible - and I like to think we've upheld our end of the bargain in making
at least two or maybe three hundred games backwards compatible."

There's some talk that he later corrected the above statements on some
bull*** podcast, but I've yet to hear much about it.

Of course, after that statement was released, an outcry from the fans
was heard all over the internet, and the team working on the BC stuff
basically said they're still working on it. So NOW they're trying to
perpetuate the rumors.

Well, that's not fair...they really are still working on it. A new list of 27
games came out this month...and they're working on next month's stuff now. As
for when they will quit? I'd bet the end of this year is it.

Quite honestly, it all sounded pretty much like damage control to me.
My guess is MS is still planning to stop work on the backwards
compatibility, they will just do it quietly under the table instead of
stupidly announcing it to the world.

Yeah, I'd guess some statement like "We've put a lot of work into the BC of
the 360, but now as 2007 is around the corner we're going to try to put that
effort into other future 360 software upgrades. Be sure to check this page for
more info!!!".

i wish MS would have either gone all the way or not at all with
backwards compatibility. It would have at least made it simple instead
of having to check a list to see if a game I want to buy will work or not.

Agreed...but with not only changing graphic chip sets...but fucking *CPU*
sets, it was a pipe dream to begin with. Honestly, I'm kinda with Peter on the
fact that he/I can't believe they've gotten as many running as they have.
Granted they have professional programmers up there, not just some jerkoff
telling you he can get N64 emulation on the DC running at a smooth 3fps, but
still it's gotta be real, real hard.

Just think, it's almost like the Bleemcast situation, in that they've got so
many titles to work through, and test. What I don't get is why can't they just
let everything be up and running? Let the public test it(you know, like
virtually every PC game developer does), send in bug reports, work from
there...

But they saw that both Sony and Nintendo were doing backwards
compatibility, so they had to do something to stay competitive.

I'm still interested in how Sony is going to pull off PS2 emulation, fully.
PS1? ***, there are at least 15 apps out for PC/Mac/Linux that can do that
now...so no big deal there. I'd almost guess we're going to see a list like MS
has now, for the PS2 stuff that will work on the PS3...but again, we'll see
how it goes.

So we
get this half-baked backwards compatibility that doesn't even cover a
third of the games. Way to go Microsoft... yay...

No ***. The number of BC titles vs the actual number of Xbox games is just
sad. I was asking this in another forum: I wonder what the total number of
Xbox games is? I was guessing around 1800, but someone said it's probably
closer to 1200/1400. At any rate, it'll be damn near impossible for MS to get
all of those up and running...especially by the end of the year. :(

Short answer: Just keep your fucking original Xbox people...they're
stackable!!! ;)
