Wow I didn't think people still watched VHS. Do they even make the

Yeah, but not good ones. The days when you could spend $200-300 and get
a badass VCR are long gone. Even the more expensive units are crap
quality, and you'll mostly be finding sub-$70 units.

The reason I've done this much research is that I've started a project
to convert lots of my old VHS tapes to DVD (video game promo material,
MST3k episodes) and I did need to hunt out a new VCR.

And don't even get me started on the Laserdisc geeks, who were
fiercely opposed to DVD, and spouting all sorts of "numbers" that
"proved" that DVD was an inferior media and making ridiculous lists
such as "10 reasons why DVD will fail to overtake LD", or similer such
nonsense.

I was one of them. Being wrong ain't so bad! :-)
