Re: What makes some connections get so damn hot?

This is a problem with anything electronic. As a general rule of thumb,
if too much power is being pulled through a wire, then it will heat-up.
This also impacts the connects and causes the pins to heat-up too,
which heats-up the plastic connectors, turning them yellow, brown or
black and usually brittle. This can also happen when a wire has been
damaged, causing all of the power to travel through less physical wire. If you find this happened, there are several things that can be done. First, determine why it happened, since a failure of some type may have caused the spike in power. Either way, replace the connectors, pin and possibly even double-up the wiring to help even out the electrical load.
There are other reasons why and ways to deal with them, but this is a
start.

On my Who Dunnit power driver board, I noticed that the J115 connector.
was hot. The game was only on for a few minutes, and it was very very
warm. I looked at the connection (for the simple fact that the backbox
lights were starting to flicker a bit) and noticed that it was very
burnt. Dark dark brown on one end. So, I decided to turn the machine
off and pull out this plug... or, TRY to. It was stuck on there really
good, as if it were melted on.
So, I FINALLY got it off, put it back on, and the backbox is totally
out now. It's clearly because of this.
I will replace the connection on the board and the actual cable
connection, too... but m question is this: why the hell did this get
so damn hot so quickly? Is there another problem I should be looking
at beyond replacing burnt connectors? There must be a cause to this?
PS: How hard is it to replace these? Can't be that tough, right?
