I've found DK to easily have eproms go bad for some reason. I've fixed
a couple by programming a new eprom - assuming you've done the usual
reseating of chips etc, maybe you can read and check the proms. Just a
thought,

Hi;
I had a working Donkey Kong that I converted to a Popeye, (for my
son). I wanted to bring it back to a DK and when I put the PCB in the
cab, it did not work - will not coin up and no display.
I received the usual “spring” type sound when power is first applied
but no display. I removed the HS save kit that was installed on the
PCB but received the same initial start up sound but again, no
display. The test feature does not work either, no display.
I replaced the ribbon cables and CPU with known good but still
received the same start-up sounds with no display.
The PCB is super clean and has no visible damage, I always practiced
safe ESD procedures so I do not think that would be the problem.
As I said, it makes the “correct” start-up sound that it had always
made but just does not work.
I would like to repair this board if possible, does anyone have any
idea of what to look for?
Does this problem sound familiar to anyone else?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Jeff
I found the problem, in my haste to reinstall the DK PCB, I had
forgotten to hook back up the -5vdc line to the pcb. I attached it and
the board is OOS. I guess firing it up without the -5vdc killed it.
Would anyone happen to know what the consequences are when one does
what I have done?? Ex. What ICs' are affected?
Thanks
Jeff
