Just a follow up on this thread. Someone on another arcade NG
suggested, turning up the black level ( or down ) what ever the case
may be... Duh. Yes, I'm an idiot. So, all my voltage readings
indicated it was working. and in fact it was.

Now, I have three distinct video traces, a red, green and blue
picture. Seems the Yoke got banged pretty hard and the guns are out
of alignment? Also the image is not flat like 2D, it's more of a
skewed 3D effect. Is that what is called Geometry of the picture?

Is it difficult to realign the RGB guns? Is that convergence? Do I
just move the yoke rings around till I get the cross hatch pattern
white instead of RGB?

What a great learning experience this is turning out to be.

The easiest path from this point is to find a old compatible 19" TV
tube with minimal use and swap the tube. The convergence settings
will come from the donor tube, the yoke, chassis and frame from your
4900. It is not really difficult; much simpler that attempting to set
convergence manually. This procedure is usually done to replace a
tube with burn in, but is is so simple that I recommend it as a fix
for convergence.

Find an electronics recycler near you and explain what you want to do.
You are looking for a little used cirica 1975-1985 early push button
type 19" TV. About 1 out of 4 of this vintage TV tube will have the
correct pin type for your chassis. Mark the convergence rings well on
the donor tube; these will move over with the donor tube and their
position is critical!

Google for arcade monitor tube swap.

Good luck,

Unless you luck out and find a tube with a compatible yoke, you still
have to do the alignment, in fact that's the hardest part of swapping in
a TV tube. I've done this many times, and while you can usually preserve
the alignment of the ring magnets with some care, swapping the yoke
still requires that to be aligned. If the tube turns out to be damaged
this is a good fix though. I've heard others have found tubes with
usable yokes on them already, I never have though.

You DON'T use the yoke off of the donor tube. Use the yoke that came
with your ORIGINAL chassis.
