I was working on a monitor chassis from a nanao MS8-26SU last night. I
got a "fix it" kit off ebay and was replacing the components. When I
de-soldered one of the caps the metal on the pcb where the solder
sticks to came off as well. This area of the pcb was a little brown
already so maybe there was some damage there? So now there is nothing
for the solder to stick to. Being a novice at soldering I don't know
how to fix this kind of thing. Any ideas?
That's pretty common, usually cheap non-temperature controlled soldering irons overheat the pad causing the glue to fail.
Fix is pretty simple, usually you can just scrape a bit of the solder mask off the trace leading to it, fold the component lead over to touch the newly bare copper, and solder it there. If multiple traces connect to the same pad, you'll need to bridge the gap with wire.
