Were the yoke and purity rings removed from the tube (or knocked out

Hello....

Nope, I was pretty careful when removing the monitor boards. Didn't
mess with the yoke or rings. And I'm very positive it didn't get hit/
bumped.

The Tempest just started to act up one day, screen/graphics all
garbled up when 1st powered up. Things would go back to "normal" when
I would unplug the wire harness to the game PCB and plug it back in,
then powering up the game again. After a short while, it was harder
and harder to have it play normally. then just went blind. Since
then, never been the same and I've done SO MUCH to try and fix this.

???????

What does the red wire with suction cup going from the HV cage to the
monitor do?

Patrick,

Have you considered contacting Chad to resume support talks? I know
you mentioned that you tried, but communication sorta 'fizzled out' as
you said. Typically, none of us here mind helping. However when you
pay for something to be done, you can expect some support from the
tech, and should generally try that route first.

I have seen your problem several times, and if the screen adjustment
won't fix it, you want to start looking at the joints from the focus
block clear up to the tube neck socket. There won't be any magical fix
for this, you will just flat out have to pull out a meter and the
schematic. Look for the lines (two of them) comming off the back of
the focus block on the HVT unit and trace the routes clear up to the
pins on the tube neck. Your looking for a break somewhere. They are
not always visual breaks, so the meter helps here. Also peel the boots
back on the back of the block and make sure the clips are still firmly
attached to the pins (you'll know what I mean when you see them). Also
make sure they are on the right pins (not reattached backwards for
some reason). Also inspect the CRT pins on the neck for bends, breaks,
etc. You lost your proper screen range somewhere. You need to find it.

If Chad won't help, and you don't feel comfortable doing this
yourself, ask a local collector to be your friend for the day, they
usually show up for beer. The above is my professional opinion and
guidance, but I can't move you hands for you. Good luck.

- Matt

PS. Glad the board work brought the X/Y outputs back up for ya!
