I just bought a jpac and it comes with your choice of ps2 or usb however usb
cost a little more. But as I just found out there is a problem with the ps2
version on some of the newer ones and to avoid it you have to use the usb
insted which ultramarc has agreed to supply. They just became aware of the
problem a few days ago themselves so I don't know if there is an
announcement on their page yet or not.

actually I just looked at their page again... apparently they sell 2
type of ultrastick 360 joysticks (one with a red ball top, and a
thicker one more in the style of the happ super joystick) I have the
red one that looks like the older thin shaft and red ball types.... I
love it. I haven't tried the other one.

ultimarc controllers without question.
IPAC or JPAC if you want to use normal off the shelf arcade joysticks.
if you want to spend a little more consider the
ultrastick 360, it's actually an analog joystick, in a arcade style
housing.
the great thing about it is it can be reprogrammed on the fly to
change it's preferences. (they have default preference provided too)
(ie it can act like a 4 way normal, or a 4 way at a 45 degree angle
(ie qbert), or be programmed to act like at 8 way, etc)
you can program which areas define which "button press" and even
configure things like "stickyness" (ie if already in a region, it
keeps whatever the last direction was, if entering a region... the
control is something else... it also has connections you can wire to a
few buttons per joystick, and it's USB so wiring is much less of a
pain.
it.. rocks...especially for older games in MAME (donkey kong, ms
pacman,1942 ). where you want to switch from 4 way to 8 way easily. I
went through probably 4-5 joysticks and controllers for my "vertical"
mame cabinet (including restrictor plates etc) before finding this one
and it's been the one I've used for the last year or so.... though if
your into newer games (mortal combat, Street fighter etc) I like the
IPAC with the happ controls super joysticks. as this joystick is more
in line with ms pacman sticks.
hope that helps.
