So basically, a seller can COMPLETELY JERK-OFF A BUYER, AND GET AWAY
WITH IT! And vice-versa. I know there's EBay recourses for handling
bad transactions, but everyone still want's to know who the F-head's
are before they consider bidding on or buying their item.
Uh... no. A seller can't do anything to a buyer, because a. the buyer can
leave them negative feedback, and b. the buyer can dispute any paypal
transaction, lie about it, and get their money back NEARLY everytime.
On the other hand, a seller can't even leave the buyer negative feedback,
EVEN if the buyer never pays for the item.
It's not vice-versa, it's very heavily weighted towards giving the buyer the
moon and giving the shaft to the sellers, even though the only way Ebay
makes money, is through the sellers. If they were going to be lopsided,
common sense would skew it the other way.

I don't know about this one. I buy and sell on EBAY some. I have never
had an issue as a seller that I was not able to resolve between me and
the buyer. I have wanted to leave negative (or at least totally honest
and useful) feedback for sellers. Some sellers do not communicate at
all or say stuff like it was working when I shipped it, etc... They
think because they put as-is in an auction that it is OK to lie and
cheat.
I have never left negative feedback in fear of getting negative
feedback in retaliation. I usually watch all auctions that I win and
pay immediately and communicate immediately. I have 100% positive
feedback and wish to keep it that way.
Negative feedback left for buyers has never made sense to me with the
exception of those that have not paid for an item in a timely fashion.
For that I think EBAY should have a system set up to track how quickly
buyers pay for items, but that is it.
Most of the times, the negative feedback on buyers is all about
retaliation.
Anyway, my 2 cents....

There are buyers that deserve negatives, believe me. I had a guy neg
me five calendar days after the auction ended, totally without
warning, because he didn't have his item in hand yet. I had a total
newbie (zero feedback) email me after he won an item to say that he
thought my shipping was too high. I responded by giving him a lower
shipping price as a courtesy. A week later, I get a neg saying I
don't communicate. I just had a guy that neg'ed me because, even
though I provided him a tracking # that shows that I took his item to
the post office, it appears that the post office lost it and that's
somehow my fault. He didn't like it when I told him that the post
office wouldn't let me start an investigation for 30 days. Need I go
on? I guess these people should be able to slander my reputation any
which way they please and go on about their merry way. I guess there
shouldn't be any way to put their comments into perspective. Well
that's all good and fine, until I read some of you saying "I wouldn't
buy from that seller, his feedback is below 9X.X percent.." And then
I cringe. The feedback system is bad enough the way it was, now it'll
be open season on sellers. I just hope it's true that this won't
happen until may so I've got enough time to sell off the bulk of what
I've got!
I get what your saying and currently, your only way to handle it is to
leave negative feedback in return. That causes people to not leave
honest feedback. That is all that I am saying.
Look, I want to know if somehow packages shipped by you get lost. If
it happens once, Ok, that is understandable, but if it happens several
times, it is a different story. I would like others in the community
to tell me about it. If people think that you are slow to ship, I want
to know that too. If people think that you are not communicating, I
want to know that too.
In my opinion, one or two negatives does not mean that you are a bad
seller, necessarily. However, consistent negative feedback leaves me
to believe that a seller has a problem and I would like to know about
it before I bid.
By the way, telling the truth is not slander. I want to see honest
feedback.
Like a said before, ebay should have a buyer ranking that indicates
how quickly a buyer pays (or does not pay). Maybe that is overly
simplistic, but it is what it is....
Thomas
it needs more than that, it needs a detailed star system for buyer so
the seller knows what to expect and whether or not to sell to them.
