Tech: How To Make High-Voltage Measurements?

Ok, so I have my new Fluke 40 kV probe and Fluke 179 meter ready to make a
high voltage measurement and adjustment if necessary on my Electrohome
G05-01 b&w monitor. Going to check the value first for grins, then replace
the crt with a new tube, swapping the yoke from the old one.
I've grounded various CRT's a number of times to do cap kits, but I've never
fooled around with a live high-voltage section. Do I poke the probe under
the suction cup and measure it live? Remove the HV unit cover and measure
it at the diode? Do I need special trimmer sticks? Wear rubber shoes?
Sacrifice a live chicken?
Words of advice greatly appreciated! Don't want to fry myself...
