So I *guess* the answer is "Yes you still need to use a filter" before
the switching power supply.
But that article was about a MS Pac Man, and does a Great job of
showing how to rewire an old game, I've referenced it a few times.
Is the filter needed because of the old monitor, or the switching
power supply?
I had a multi-board hooked up to a normal computer power-supply that
was just plugged into a power strip. The monitor was just a VGA
computer monitor also plugged into the power strip. It never gave me
any problems with no "filter", but I think modern computer power
supplies have filtering built in.
I had never thought of a filter back then. But after thinking about it
on this thread, I don't think it was necessary.
The multi board is essentially a "computer motherboard" and was
plugged into a computer PS like any motherboard, the VGA monitor was
plugged into the powerstrip and connected to the VGA port on the
"motherboard" like any monitor.
Since my set up was essentially the same as a home computer, I don't
think a filter was needed/required.
But if I was using an old Arcade Monitor then its possible a filter
may be needed even with a multi board.
Is my thinking correct here?
Thanks

Rewiring a cabinet for a multicade and want to start from scratch.
I'll be using a monitor that does not require an Isolation transformer
so the power supply and monitor will plug directly into a power strip
mounted in the cabinet. Can I run the AC line directly into the
switching power supply or is it necessary to go to a filter\power
block first?
