Re: WG6100xy problems!

There are seldom any "easy" fixes for the 6100. If you fix one thing, another will break. There are those that don't think you should shotgun the boards and others that say do it. I personally get tired of pulling monitors all the time so I go thru every component I can test. It takes a lot longer but is worth it. I try to do 4-5 boards at a time to save time and to cross check my work. I realize you only have the one but you have to start somewhere. There is a ton of info on this monitor available. I suggest you download the flowchart and the FAQ. These are available with a little searching. I think ionpool.net has them. If you are going to fix the monitor, do it right and replace and upgrade the components recommended in the FAQ. You will have trouble finding the upgraded transistor for the Low voltage section. You can replace that whole area with a LV2000 or Mark Spaeth's equivalent. (I forget what he calls it) You can also just use the standard stuff and keep your fingers crossed. If you do a search of the groups for WG6100 stuff, you will find more than enough info to get you started. I have a whole 3 ring binder full of stuff. Be sure to resolder all suspect cold solder joints. Clean is good. I resolder EVERYTHING in the HV section. Raise the resistors in the HV section a little bit off of the board when you resolder them to allow them to cool a little easier and prevent burning the board if they overheat. I have at least three "torched" HV boards from burnt resistors.

The flowchart helps tremendously but is not perfect. Follow it and report back your findings if you get stuck. The cap kit will not hurt and will probably help.

Good luck.

Hello!

I recently bought an atari star wars upright with a WG6100XY
installed. Monitor supposed to be broken.

First thing i did when i received the game was testing to adjust
brightness. And now i have a very dim image. But spotkiller is
sometimes lighted, but image is still the same.

Have ordered a new cap kit for this monitor, but i suspect something
else is broken, think the problem is on the HV side. Or am i wrong?

Anyone have any suggestions what to test next?

Strange because game is fully playable, but the image is very weak.
But i think it must be an easy fix, just need to figure out what to do.
