A number is things here.
1. It is not the CGA that I need it is the EGA along with the CGA and
VGA. Especially the EGA. When I need to work on different game boards
I have to lug different monitors up to the bench so I have been
looking for one monitor that can do all three. They don't seem to
have a tube that is small, like 9". So I found this one.
2. This is the same one that Happ sells:( I had this sinking feeling
that this wasn't new news. Had Happ sales people knew their monitors
a little better I would have bought it from them. I called and asked
for this and even called Wells Gardner and asked if they knew of
something small that would do all three resolutions. They both said
no.
3. This may be a problem. I checked the LCD out using my Wells
Gardner monitor pattern generator that I have been using for arcade
tubes for years, and it wires in to a small plug next to the VGA plug
on the monitor. It is a 6 wire connector that is labeled 1. Red, 2.
Green, 3. Blue, 4. Ground, 5. Vertical sync and 6.Horizontal sync or
Vertical & Horizontal sync. This is on the LCD. It worked fine for
all resolutions that I need CGA/EGA/ and on the VGA, the games
usually use the VGA plug. So you don't have to cut into a VGA cable,
so far.
BUT..... when I went to check a game out, after the post, I am having
trouble getting it to produce a image with my JAMMA test rig. So a
little help here. You would think that you just wire the JAMMA sync
into the LCD H+V pin on the monitor but it doesn't seem to produce an
image. It says no cable, but it works just fine with the W/G tester.
With that tester I wire the separate Horizontal and Vertical syncs
into the separate H and V inputs on the LCD. When I test regular
arcade tube monitors I sometime hook the H &V together and they go
into the Horizontal input on the tube, using the W/G tester. But with
a game it doesn't seem to work. Any ideas here? I sure hope this
thing works for actual arcade games, or it is going back. They assured
me it would so I have to think it is in the settings. But I have
played with all of them and still can't bring up a picture with an
arcade board.
If you just need CGA you can use a playstation 5" monitor.
The LCD I bought is just for the bench, if it ends up working
correctly.
Thanks for the help.
