Re: Tail Gunner - Ok, who's got em?

By the way, even though I fixed my original Tailgunner CPU, I upgraded it
to a cleaner and slightly more modern CPU from a spare Star Castle boardset
I had. Plus I like having the nifty Red LED. :)

I put a little blurb up on ionpool.net if you want to do the same. You'll
still need the orginal tailgunner soundboard.

And don't forget to re-center the joystick once in a while. There's little
tabs on the X/Y pots on the joystick where you can get the cross-hairs
perfectly centered.

I think that price is too low even for a non working one. Maybe it didn't
get enough attention because he didn't include "Cinematronics" in his
title. I certainly didn't see it. I bought one a couple years ago and it's
super nice now. I had to fix litterally everything on it; power supply,
cpu, sound board, light ballast, speaker, monitor, etc. In fact I think
it's the only game I've owned where litterally every major component was
not working. But now it's good as new. I remember when I first played it
at some miniature golf place in 1980 I thought it was pretty boring. But
now I think it's a cool looking game.

Ok, I have to ask to check my sanity.

After watching the latest sale of a Tail Gunner on eBay, I was amazed
to see it go for what I thought was cheap. ($461.78) However, someone
else on RGVAM commented they thought that was a high price and perhaps
they should sell theirs?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6275906136

Sure it was not working, but it's a game that rarely comes up for sale
from what I've seen. In the past 6 + years I've only seen 4 public
sales (including this one) on here and eBay - none of which were sold
working. (I bought 2 of those so I know how rarely they come up)

Perhaps a ton of people have the game and tons of private sales have
happened and I'm just misinformed, but I doubt it. The GGDB has only
2 listed and both play blind (gotta love those Cinamatronics monitors!
;-) so that's 2 not working.

So this leads me to the questions:
Who actually has a Tail Gunner... Then secondly who has one that works?

I'll start it off and say I have 2, and both work completely.(one
looks like hammered crap, but it works) And I give HUGE thanks to
Peter Hirschberg for being the one who made them work since they were
way out of my league! I lucked into the fact that he was close enough
and nice enough that he would fix them for me.

See, I had 2 non-working Tail Gunners and EVERYONE that I wrote that
listed that they had one (years ago) came back and told me theirs
didn't work and they didn't know how to fix them so they couldn't
help..... Except Peter. He had a working Tail Gunner II cockpit and
offered to help me get mine going. I had hoped he could use one for
parts and get one working, but he got both of them going and I
couldn't have been happier.

So please, help me check my sanity and tell me how many of these
actually exist and then if they work since I thought this was a pretty
rare game and even rarer working.

Thanks,

Jim
