TECH: Centipede to Millipede Adapter

Can someone PLEASE help me here...I'm at my wits end on this one...

I have a Centipede that I bought with no power block or board. I bought a power block from a Centipede and rebuilt it with a Big Blue and bridge, just to be safe. Voltages come out of it fine. Rebuilt my A/R II board, and checked voltages from it also. all are fine except the -5 is around -24. Replaced the regulator (actually, twice), and still get the same -24v??? Also, replaced the soldered in Molex connectors on the A/RII, as well as the harness connectors. Replaced the edge connectors on the PCB too.

Since I'm building a Multipede kit, I bought a working Millipede PCB on Ebay. I also picked up a Millipede to Centipede harness adapter (Arcadeshop adapter, but I bought it on Ebay - stated as unused). Also picked up a Multipede kit for it, but don't want to install it until I can get the damn thing a runnin...

Here's what happens. I check voltages at the PCB connector, and all check out fine. I plug in the adapter and power up, it advances the left coin meter one click and it burns R-30 on the A/RII board. WTF??? Should it do this because of the pin re-routing, or is it shorted somewhere? OK, so I plug it into the Millipede board too...it doesn't burn R-30 up, but I only get .001v at the +5v test points on the board!

So I guess I have 3 questions here...
1). Why do I get -24v at my -5v test pin on the A/RII board? I've replaced the regulator twice, and every other component for that matter,
2). Should plugging in the adapter to the harness burn R-30 if no PCB is plugged in, or is there a short in the adapter?
3). Can I just re-wire the connectors on my Centipede harness and avoid the whole adapter thing altogether, or do I have to use one?

Does anyone have any suggestions, or ideas???? I'm about to set this whole f***ing mess on fire!!!!!! ;-)

Thanks in advance,
Jeff
