You know, sometimes this is a mistake and sometimes this is completely
done on purpose. Sometimes they chose to use something in a movie that
simply can't be true just because people identify with this object
better than the correct alternative.
I remember a company that I worked for was approached by a movie
company wanting to use our name/image/logo in their movie - nice except
that our company didn't exist until many years after the timeframe in
question. However, the name of our company fit into the concept that
they wanted to portray, so they decided it would be good anyhow.
I figure you see Pacs/Galagas/DKs/Asteroids/etc in movies not
necessarily because of the timeframe, but because people can identify
with those games in some way. Sure it's disturbing to those who
remember and actually care about when a game existed/was popular, but
those people aren't generally who directors are targeting anyhow.
