Re: Tech: Need help troubleshooting Outrun sounds board

Replaced power cord and checked voltages. All ok. No apparent damage to amp board BUT, replaced it with one from a computer speaker set and now I have good sound. (Except for a loud buzzing before startup). Pretty sure the buzzing I am hearing now is from AC transformer. I would like to buy a replacement if anyone has one. Let me know.

Purchased a Sega Outrun with "fuzzy sound". You can barely hear it but it is very low and there is a lot of static throughout the music.

The voices are the same way. I am just getting started on this game and plan to do the following:

Replace power cord so that it has the grounding plug.

Check all voltages at power supply and board set.

Remove amp board and clean it. (It is pretty filthy) and check for obvious damage such as burn marks etc. Replace caps on board.

The diagnostics show all Roms and Ram okay. If anyone has any experience with this game/amplifier, I would appreciate any help in the right direction. Perhaps there is a particular chip that is known to go bad etc. Any particular links to troubleshooting the circuits would also be appreciated.

It really sounds to me like somebody "blew the amp" but that is hardly a technical term. Again, thanks for any help. I'll check back later.
