Re: VecVox and PC-Interface - anybody interested in that?

The VecVox uses the following pins -

Pin 1 - speech data (out)
Pin 2 - buffer full (in)
Pin 7 - +5V
Pin 8 - GND

That is true (and I apologise), I had to case the AtariVox after guys kept
asking if they would get electrocuted (!). It's just that I build stuff and
don't really think about the aesthetics :)

(BTW the AtariVox case is no good for fitting the Vec controller port)

One option I suggested to John, was to try to get it down to the size of
Kev's 3D adaptor, so that it could be plugged directly into the port (and
could also be cased using heat-shrink tubing).

The amp stage could be taken out to help with size reduction, but that would
mean powered speakers would have to be used, and you wouldn't be able to
plug a pair of headphones directly in. I'm sure John can get the size down
VERY small with SMD components on both sides of the PCB.

(The SpeakJet chip is apparently available in surface mount)

I experimented with small speakers, but couldn't get a satisfactory sound
quality compared to PC speakers (even cheap ones).

(I wonder what they use in Laptops ?, the sound on mine is pretty good).

As I've completely handed the project over, it's really up to John what he
decides to do. But from his other stuff I know he'll do a great job
on it (you gotta see his new imager model).
