(Storyline Tournament) Assamites Win Ithaca!

So we had a solid 8 players for our 10th annual Orgy of Mystery
tournament, which this year was the Eden's Legacy Storyline event. After
many long, cold years with Evil Vampire Barbie held in Binghamton, Peter
Bakija (i.e. me) wins with an Assamite stealth/breed/vote deck with a
Laibon angle being motivated by Jyhad, nominating Olugbenga as my key
minion.

The players, their scores (GW/VP/TP), their decks, and their motivations
after 2 preliminary rounds:

1. Andrew Sackett 1/4/88; Gargoyle Tupdog Vote. Knowledge
2. Peter Bakija 1/4/76; Assamite Laibon breed/boon. Jyhad
3. Dave Conroy 1/3/88; Ishtari Gun Rush. Gehenna
3. Steve Wampler 1/3/88; Ishtari Gun Rush. Gehenna

5. James Rodriguez 0/2/76; Baali Cybell turbo Beast. Knowledge
6. James Willhelm 0/0/76; Tzimisce Legion horde. Secrecy
7. Bob Miller 0/0/56; Lasombra Laibon. Jyhad
8. Ben Kalb 0/0/46; Akunanse breed/boon. Knowledge

The final round was:

Steve>Peter>Andrew>Dave

Early on, Andrew votes the heck out of Dave, bringing him down to well
below 10 pool very quickly. Dave and Steve have a bit of trouble as they
are playing essentially the same deck, and have some of the same minions
in their crypt, slowing them both down. Peter gets out some guys, tools
up a bit and makes a few little minions. Dave back rushes into Andrew,
killing a lot of his guys, but Andrew beats Dave down to 1 or 2 pool
anyway. Meanwhile, Steve stalls out for a turn, having no rush in hand,
and with only 2 minions, when his bleed of 1 is reduced to zero, he
can't get the edge and follow up with a rush, giving Peter a turn of
freedom from rushy death. On his next turn, Steve kills two of Peter's
minions and contests Elizabeth Conde with Dave. Peter ousts Andrew with
some stealthed bleeds. Dave, still down at 2 or 3 pool, sees an
opportunity, grabs the Codex from the middle of the table, Forced
Marches, and bleeds Steve down to 2 pool. Steve walls up a bit. Peter
looks around the table, sees he can pass a vote and both Dave and Steve
are below 4 pool, calls a Neonate Breach, ousting both Steve and Dave,
winning the final with 3VP (Dave getting 1VP).

The format is funny, and the crazy motivation cards tend to make games
go really fast--we played an 8 player 2R+F tournament in less than 3
hours. Being able, at least for me, to be able to fish out an Alamut
when I pulled out one of my 2 Laibon Assamites was huge. Both Ishtari
decks tended to pull out skill cards to make their bad minions actually
good when they hit play. The motivated by Gehenna cards were huge for
the perma rush. I was using motivated by Jyhad, which was certainly
helpful--in my second game, I ousted all 3 other players in one turn by
virtue of calling 2 Neonate Breaches and bleeding with a few minions
with the +1 bleed from the motivation. In the final, I killed Andrew
exactly by virtue of the +1 bleed it gave me.
