Quickie Origins Report

Just got back from Origins. As usual, an excellent weekend of crazy
VTES action. Kevin ran things incredibly well, as usual. Everyone was
fantastic and laid back and fun. As usual. It looked like attendance
was up this year from last year, with multiple tournaments having 6
tables, and I think the Qualifier was the biggest ever at Origins.
From the events I saw and was in:
-Friday had 2 constructed 2R+F tournaments. The highly charming Hugh
Anesseningngngnng won. Both. In the same day. Crazy.
-Saturday Qualifier was won by John Newquist with an Imbued deck (suck
on that, "The Imbued are sucky and useless now" contingent...)
-Saturday night, I was totally schooling everyone in the 4xTR/4xLotN
draft tournament with a Spell of Life deck (which got 2GW/10VP in 3
games), but lost the final to Chris Berg (I got 2VP, he got GW/3VP)
due to just being too Mummytastic and getting all the table hate.
There was apparently a very well attended constructed on Wednesday
Night, another 2R+F constructed on Thursday day and another Draft on
Thursday Night. But I don't know what happened there.
I played both constructed on Friday, and sucked like something that
sucked a lot. I played the first tournament with the weenie Gangrel
vote deck I qualified with in NYC, and got tooled first game by Team
Ithaca buddy Dave Conroy's Enkidu/Aksina deck (nothing better than
driving 500 miles with your pal in the car, only to get killed by him
as your predator in your first game...) Second game, my predator got
out a 10 cap Cardinal before I took a single action. And it all went
down hill from there. 0VP. Second tournament, I was filled with spite
and range, so I played a Giovanni/Lorrie Dunsirn POT/dom Rush deck.
First game, got tooled by my Team Ithaca buddy John Stevens' Ignazio
POT/FOR/dom multi rush deck as my predator. Second game went a little
better, me doing ok, ousting Xian's Arimanes vote deck, but then
discovering that all my Deflections weren't going to save me from my
predator's S+B when we were the only players left. 1VP. And then on
Saturday night, I roxxored with the Spell of Life draft deck (which
was basically 5?!?! Spell of Life and 35 cards of mostly jank to
discard to get to the Spells of Life). Yeah, all those earlier
comments about Spell of Life being totally broken at Draftferior
(where you only need 2 Spell of Life to set it off?). Yeah. Completely
correct.
