Ben's Winning deck:
Deck Name: Lasombra Creation Boon
Created By: Ben Peal
Description: This deck was directly inspired by Jeff "The Lasombra"
Thompson's Lasombra decks that took advantage of breed, Power Structure,
and Consanguineous Boon:
http://www.thelasombra.com/decks/boc.htm
http://www.thelasombra.com/decks/The_Lasombra_Embraces_the_Austrian_Nationals.htm
I built my own version quite some time ago, but while it did very well in
casual games, it never quite got it going in a tournament. After my
tournament wins with a Ventrue version (Buckets o' Money) and an Assamite
version (Team Amaravati) of the same concept, I came to the conclusion
that I needed to get rid of the Obtenebration in the deck and exclusively
use Obfuscate for stealth, since Obfuscate stealth is free. Angelica,
Gratiano, and Guido have Obfuscate, making this a solid plan. The deck
worked like a charm, getting 4 GW.

Ben's Winning deck:
Deck Name: Howler and Friends
Created By: Ben Peal
Description: This is a fairly toolboxy wall deck, getting out assorted
allies and retainers, with Howler minding the fort. A few years ago,
Andreas Nusser clued me in to the power of Form of Corruption for keeping
your prey in check if you're a slowly developing deck, and it works to
great effect here, and the Neighborhood Watch Commanders can really take
their toll. Over the course of the tournament at Origins, I managed to
steal Arika twice!

John's Winning deck:
Deck Name: Hmm...Yeah I'll Block That (a.k.a. Ol' Big Eye)
Created By: John Bell
Description:
I figured to see the Imbued at Origins, and of course being a qualifier,
figured to see a quite a lot of Stealth/Bleed and Stealth/Vote. This deck
gives me a ton of flexibility on which actions happen at the table. I was
able to negotiate some short-term deals by simply *not* Eagle's Sight
blocking a few times. I die horribly to combat, particularly the
animalism
variety - which two decks in the finals were running. My only hope was
for
them to wreck each other, which eventually did happen.

Matt's Winning deck (and round notes):
Deck Name : Akunanse bleed and block v2
Author : Matt Morgan
Description : Bleed forward and block backward. No Secrets From the
Magaji and Guardian Angel (or a gun of some sort) will stop many decks
dead in their tracks. This deck has an answer to most strategies and
bleeds very well besides. Its main weakness is if other decks can
block it tooling up. This was evidenced in this year's NERQ when all my
bleed permanents were blocked so even after I ran my prey out of
s:ce, I couldn't do much other than bleed for 1.
I think this deck is one of the best I've ever made. That is evidenced by
its performance in two tournaments against some of the top players
in the US (if not the world). Anyone who feels that Legacies of Blood
isn't a strong set, should try something like this. This version may
not be ideal for every metagame as it is built to withstand some serious
combat if necessary and it could have more stealth if that would be
helpful. Also, in an extremely stealthy environment, more permanent
intercept may be necessary. Delaying Tactics could certainly go in here
if you aren't confident of catching every vote. Some of the Predator's
Communion could be Forced Awakening, which would be crucial verses a
Giovanni powerbleed running The Sleeping Mind. The main idea here is to
have a wallish deck that can bleed forward well. I think a deck
with No Secrets From the Magaji is perfectly suited to such a concept
because I only block forward when it's necessary or advantageous. I
don't need to block my prey to kill him. First of all, this lets my prey
play his game and weaken his prey before I get him (in a perfect
world) and secondly this makes it less likely for me to lose my No Secrets
before my predator's turn, which could be fairly disastrous.

Round 1
Me: This deck
Mark Loughman: Saulot Spirit Marionette stuff
Robyn Tatu: Gangrel Royalty with Una
Mike (can't recall his last name): Lazverinus bleed/combat
I was very worried about Robyn's deck because I'd seen it a bit in an
earlier tournament and saw that she was running Beast Meld, which
should be this deck's worst nightmare. With that in mind, I played very
friendly with her and made it clear I wouldn't prop up per prey, let
pressure off her predator or anything like that. It turned out that she
couldn't draw into many Beast Melds or get the stuff she needed, but
in the early turns I expected to get 1 VP. Mark was a day late and a
dollar short in this game. By the time Saulot came up to cause havoc,
my engine was running. I could tap out each turn to be safe from Spirit
Marionette and had a .44 on Uchenna to be (mostly?) safe from
Lazverinus, who didn't seem to have any way to lash out at me from range
or come back to close. I also got Jubal and Dolie and Mbare Market.
I bled into Mark, who didn't seem to have any combat defense, so he'd
alternately block and get beat up or just take the bleed. He bounced
a couple of times, but I wasn't bleeding at stealth, so Robyn was able to
handle the misdirected bleeds just fine.
Mark and Mike endeavored to help one another, but Mike was really hurting
after a damaging vote or two from Robyn and an Army of Rats that
hung out for a while. Robyn had some difficulty closing the deal with
Mike, but he was on the ropes and probably not to last long. Mark
tried a lunge by Spirit Marionetting Robyn's Ingrid Rossler and bleeding
her for 4 with Daring the Dawn. Then he bled Robyn down to 1 with
Owain. Robyn rescued and gained a few pool. I ousted Mark and Robyn
finished off Mike. We went a couple more turns, but either Robyn
didn't have a Beast Meld or she didn't have anything worth playing it on
(I feared a Banishment, but I guess I was in luck), so eventually I
bled Robyn out.
Round 2
Ben Peal: Chicago Blood Brothers bleed and take your arms
Ben Swainbank: Malk/!Malk vote
Me: This deck
Dave McCarty: CEL/+1 strength with lots of equipment
John Eno: Undue Influence/Palla Grande
My initial read of this table was that I could fairly well handle any of
the decks except Swainbank's. Just my luck he was my predator. I
got out Uchenna on turn 2 (hurrah for a 7 cap!). Hasani and Jubal joined
him. I put a Guardian Angel on Uchenna and got a No Secrets and
Aranthebes, but no other intercept (permanent or transient) showed up for
a long, long time. I couldn't risk trying to block Ben with
Uchenna because I needed to save the No Secrets to handle bounced bleeds.
John and both Bens were playing bounce, so I was clearly the bleed
sink. Swainbank tried an early Parity Shift with Maris Streck, but the
table voted it down when he got greedy and wouldn't give Dave a pool for
Miller's vote. Then Swainbank brought up Korah to establish vote lock.
There was much bleeding on the other end of the table. I was attempting
to communicate to Peal that he should let a nice, big Walk of Caine
bleed rip because I was holding a Terra Incognita, but the wrong Ben
understood my meaning. Peal bled Swainbank fairly low with small
bleeds, then Swainbank attempted another Parity Shift, but Peal Delayed
it. Unfortunately, Peal would not reap the fruits of his labor
because he was ousted by Undue Influence bleeds under a Palla Grande
before he could have another turn.
Swainbank successfully called his Parity Shift the next turn, but it was
only for 4 due to the other Ben being ousted. Then Korah sent
Aranthebes home. All this time Dave had been buying Laptops and Sport
Bikes and stuff. I could've blocked, but I liked him spending pool
and he wasn't blocking me, so I saw no cause until Miller had a mandatory
hunt. Uchenna knocked him into torpor. Blaise joined Miller a bit
later after some undirected action (perhaps a rescue?). John just kept
bleeding Swainbank, his predator being on the ropes and all. I got
Parity Shifted for 4 again, but I had 2 Blood Dolls and wasn't really
hurting yet. Swainbank bounced a bleed to Dave so I wouldn't cancel
his bounce, then sent another to me, perhaps hoping to call my bluff? I
wasn't bluffing an Swainbank ate the bleed and was ousted soon
after.
Dave was down to a single minion and I was tapping out bleeding him, so he
didn't last long. Then John conceded the game to me because he
had no way to get past Uchenna's No Secrets and Guardian Angel and didn't
think he could hang on another 40 minutes to win on time (that
didn't appear to be his style of play anyway).
Final
I believe I was the only player with two game wins. At any rate I was top
seed. I more or less knew what everyone was playing, having
wandered around a bit watching other games after mine had ended well
before time. Before I chose my seat, things looked like this:
Jay Kristoff's League of Women voters (g3-4 AUS CEL FOR PRE) preying on
Jeff Turner's Achingly Beautiful Toreador voters preying on John
Bell's Tumnimos/Week of Nightmares deck preying on Brad Cashdollar's
Dominate Setites. I was most worried about PTO from Jeff and
Temptation/Form of Corruption/Society of Leopold/Free States Rant from
Brad. Since Jeff and Brad weren't next to one another, I had to sit
by one of them. I figured PTO is the absolute worst because its
unblockable and the harm is permanent. If Brad played a Form of
Corruption or put Temptations on my vampires, I could at least hope that
John would run over him and rid me of that annoyance. Also, while Brad
was
running stealth, I could at least hope to block him. Toreador Grand
Ball/PTO was the worst case scenario for me. I chose to sit as Brad's
prey and Jay's predator and just hoped that if Jeff did get a PTO off,
he'd chose one of the many other non-Camarilla vampires that were a
more immediate threat to him.
The entire final was one lucky break after another for me. I went 3rd and
had Mbare Market in my opening hand, so I quickly got out Uchenna,
Hasani and Amavi (I didn't really want to pay 8 for a non-Magaji minion,
but with Mbare Market, I felt I could take the risk). I got a
Guardian Angel and Mr. Winthrop on Uchenna and bled into Jay. He mostly
took my bleeds, carefully conserving his Majesties for when he
really needed them. I put J.S. Simmons and Kduva's Mask on Hasani, making
him a 3 bleeder with 2 votes.
Jay got out Ayo Igoli and Rosa Martinez. He never used Ayo's special to
gain pool, so I think he had a really bad crypt draw. In fact, he
certainly had a bad draw overall. I don't think he gained any pool at all
this game. Jeff got out Anson, bloated a lot and called a KRC. I
told him that for 1 pool on my prey and none on me, I'd abstain and that
for 2 on my prey I'd vote in favor. I think he called the first one
with 3 on John and 1 on Jay. Alexandra came up fairly soon after that.
John made some Tumnimos. Brad bled me a little, burning some
precious stealth cards and called a Free States Rant, knocking some blood
off my guys. He had Count Ormonde and Khay'Tall, then Kephamos a
bit later. Ormonde put a Temptation on Anson for later, which irritated
Jeff a bit. John got out Tsunda after a while to make for an
extremely votey table.
Jay tried to banish Anson who was empty or on 1 blood after failing to
draw a Voter Cap on his last vote. He implored me to vote in favor to
keep Jeff from bloating up too much, but I was still interested in staying
on Jeff's good side and was willing to roll the dice and hope I
could catch him later, so I voted it down. Jay then tried to Mind Numb
Uchenna, which kinda freaked me out, but he was really just trying to
draw out a block and untap with Majesty, but I had a Cats' Guidance, so
his gambit failed. He was considering a Political Stranglehold which
would've given 6 pool to him, 6 to Jeff, none to John, 6 to Brad and 3 to
me, but I talked him out of it using his own argument that Jeff was
already bloating too much. Instead he called a Conservative Agitation (I
told him that if no damage was put on me, I'd pretend it wasn't
happening), but failed to draw into a Voter Cap.
On Jeff's next turn, he called a KRC and put 2 on Jay to gain my votes so
he could Voter Cap finally. This put Jay down to 6 pool and he was
tapped out. I had 7 bleed on the table, so things looked pretty grim for
him. Brad played a Society of Leopold on Hasani (my 3 bleeder),
then attempted a Free States Rant, which I barely managed to block. On my
turn, I played my first No Secrets From the Magaji on Uchenna,
then tapped out bleeding Jay to oust him. Jeff didn't do much except play
some more Aching Beauties (he had 2 on Anson and 2 on Alexandra)
and bleed John. He then influenced up Tatiana Romanov. John started
going forward a bit more. I think he was hoping that Brad would get me
so he wouldn't have to deal with No Secrets, but that was looking less and
less likely. John was bounced to me a couple times, but I played
it as friendly as I could. Brad mostly took the bleeds.
Brad Minion Tapped to raise his lagging pool total and tried a couple more
Free States Rants. He had an Elder Impersonation for Uchenna's
block, but I was able to catch him with Amavi and KRCG News Radio. I
think this happened twice and both times I was already holding my next
No Secrets, so I didn't mind losing them. This hurt Brad a lot. I can
only imagine that his hand filled up with vote action modifiers and
other actions he didn't have the stealth for. Eventually, I sent the
Society of Leopold back to Kephamos and started blocking Brad's hunts.
He was out of stealth and doomed.
I bled into Jeff. He never tried to block me, but had a few Telepathic
Counters. Jeff tried some votes and I sucked up the Aching Beauty
pool loss and blocked, so Jeff was stymied. Probably his best bet
would've been to try to just bleed into John, but I think he was hoping to
cycle into a Toreador Grand Ball, but he never did and I was already
holding my Sudden. Brad and Jeff were both ousted around the same time
and then I started blocking John's every action. Uchenna had an Elephant
Guardian and Duma Rafiki, so I was doing 4 damage each time I
blocked and taking none thanks to the Guardian Angel. John tried a
Sensory Deprivation and played a bunch of stealth, but was blocked.
Mostly he was hoping to cycle into a Red Hering, to see if that could burn
No Secrets. Neither of us were sure at the time, but when he
finally got one we discovered that it did not indeed burn No Secrets.
John played Week of Nightmares as what was mostly a last-ditch effort
to be able to overwhelm Uchenna, but I had my Sudden and that was that.
We went through a couple more turns before I beat up most of the
Ravnos and bled John out.
I think this deck is one of the best I've ever made. That is evidenced by
its performance in two tournaments against some of the top players
