Yes, I'm aware of that along with the differences in compiling them. The
fact is that the GUI version (read binary) *doesn't* do ascii and vice
versa.

MSDOS port - can switch between text and tiles via Fx keys
Windows tty - text only; also known as WinNT port
Windows GUI - defaults to tiles but can switch to text via the
"map" pulldown menu beneath the title bar; aka Win32 port

The latter two are both included in the Windows binary package
and can share the same playground directory and use each others
save files. The MSDOS version is completely separate and its
files aren't compatible with them.
