I've got a handful of monster creating things. I'm doing the usual

a gift after sacrificing increased if I don't pray as soon as I can.
The two are mutually exclusive - Keeping sacrificing without
prayer for artifact gifts, pray as soon as reconciled for AC and
other non-gift benefits like AC, hit points, bless/undamage
wielded weapons plus all of the troubles that get fixed.
I'd also like to avoid getting crowned until I can get an insanely low
AC. Is there a way to do this?
Finely tune your luck. It takes very careful record keeping and
knowledge of exactly what numerical luck you have and want.
Anyone who does not wish to be spoiled on the fine details of
this should skip the rest of this post.

The first trouble is luck times out if you aren't carrying a
luckstone so you need to carry an uncursed one (neither
good nor bad numerical luck timeout) or preferably a blessed
one (bad luck does timeout while good luck does not). The
basic solution to this is don't begin the cycle until you have
the luckstone from mines end and you're certain it hasn't
been cursed.
The second trouble is the luck gained by seeing the first
four leaf clover is random. This means it's necessary first
to max out your luck by doing sacs until you stop seeing
clovers so you know your exact number (13). Then take
actions that move your luck back down in exact known
increments. Any time you see a clover while already in
the cycle the reaction is to once again max out your luck
then pull it down again.
The two readily available actions without other costs that
matter that push your luck down are killing co-aligned
unicorns and breaking mirrors.
At 5 each killing a coaligned unicorn it takes you from 13
to 8 and that level ensures no crowning and allows all of
the other benefits including spellbooks. With careful
adherence to the cycle co-aligned unicorns seem to
generate almost as fast as they are need so it's possible
to stay in the cycle for a long time if you cast hungerless
create monster at 0% failure.
At 2 each throwing mirrors to break them it takes 3 to
pull you down from 13 to 7 and that level gives all of the
benefits including spellbooks if I built the table correctly.
I hoard mirrors throughout the game rather than tossing
them into a polypile just in case I want tons of AC and
hit points from this cycle.
Here's a table by numerical luck values I built about
getting crowned and what other benefits might be
received:
13 - With maxed out luck=13, 1d(luck+6)/2 is random
1-19/2 rounded up which can give 10 on down. This gives
a 3/10 chance of being crowned and a 7/10 chance of
counting down through the rest of the benefits.
12, 11 - Gives 9 on down. This gives a 2/9 chance of being
crowned, and a 7/9 chance of counting down through the
benefits. Luck=11 also gives 9 on down.
10, 9 - Gives 8 on down. This gives a 1/8 chance of being
crowned, and a 7/8 chance down through the benefits.
Luck=9 also gives on 8 on down.
8, 7 - Gives 7 on down. From this point down there is
zero chance of getting crowned. The results can be:
a) Blessed spellbook, b) AC/protection, c) uncurse all
held items (light blue), d) hit points (golden), e) (golden),
f) fix and bless weapon, or g) nothing in equal chances.
Wonderfull for a spellcaster!
6, 5 - Luck=6 gives 6 on down. The results can be:
a) AC/protection, b) light blue, c) golden, d) golden,
e) weapon, and f) nothing in equal chances. Wonderfull
for a combat wombat!
4, 3 - The results can be: a) light blue, b) golden,
c) golden, d) weapon, e) nothing in equal chances. At
this point we've dropped off being able to gain protection,
but there's still the option of getting a golden glow. The
golden glow increases max hit points so it remains a
valuable result.
2, 1 - The results can be: a) golden, b) golden,
c) weapon, d) nothing. Having known positive luck leads
to good results when praying.
My conclusions are that having known positive luck gets
good benefits even at low levels so after the first clover
it works to pray immediately but it requires very careful
record keeping to make sure you don't see another clover.
To take advantage of the light blue light result, pick up
all available cursed items to pray burdened. This slowly
pushes your polypile to have few cursed items. Don't
hold any unholy water!
Also because all troubles are fixed at prayer if your luck
is positive, wear some of the cursed armor items and
wield a cursed weapon and cursed ring and amulet to
take advantage of that and guarantee those items get
uncursed. This is a bit pointless with a loadstone or
any other autocursing item and very bad to do with a
[oOA but all other cursed items get quickly uncursed in
the cycle.
Also if there are any damaged weapons anywhere in your
stash go ahead and wield one of them. Get the
reconciliation message, wield a damaged or cursed
weapon, pray, it definitely gets uncursed, might get
blessed and damage removed. This slowly pushes your
stock of weapons to have no damaged ones, lots of
blessed ones. It's great to wield a big stack of missiles
to bless the stack.
When you get a blessed book read it immediately -
Maybe. The code tries XP times to randomly generate
a book you don't know in a school you can advance so
if you decline to read a book it stays in the list of books
that get generated. An XP=30 wizard could end up with
every possible book doing this cycle until hitting -127
AC. For a combat wombat class who can only get one
or two spell schools seriously consider *not* reading
the books until exitting the cycle - You may want to
maximize the number of books in your own schools
without getting ones from other schools.
In a bit of asymetry damaged armor can't be fixed or
blessed like this but it can have all of its curse status
removed by wearing it just before praying.
Because the golden glow is as common as the AC
boost, this altar dancing cycle ends up as good as
alchemy. Because of the effectiveness of this altar
dancing cycle any character who can acheive hungerless
cast of create monster loses interest in purchasing
protection. Where purchasing protection is limited to
-10, altar dancing is limited to -127.
There is one "beneficial risk" in the cycle - The same
sacrafice that could give you the reconcilation message
can generate an artifact gift. Since you're reconciling
again and again as your hit points, AC and library
improve you could easily get an artifact gift instead of
a reconciliation message during the cycle. Just offer
more corpses until reconciled again.
