Here's an important point. I don't think the solution to lack of
development is new variants. We already have plenty, and it doesn't
really accomplish much other than split the consumer group. Slash'em?
Great, fun, not many people play it. Spork? Same. Most players seem
to stick with vanille because it's vanilla, because it has that stamp
of official approval. A variant made without the support of the
devteam won't get farther than attracting a small fraction of vanilla
players. That's fine for those who like each variant but it's not
really any kind of progress without either popular or dev support.
