I was interested to see such a unanimous opinion. Especially since my
inclination is to not use the armor.
Not quite unanimous - I agree. Very lucky or unlucky bones are a bit of an
infelicity, and they're much more of one for a kind of play that seems
like it would require significant luck.
I'd hate to taint my accomplishment (eventually, I hope) with any
blemishes of "he just got lucky!". Instead I expect to hear "he just
farmed his way up!" because it's rather true. Anyway I put the GDSM
in a box and will continue collecting scales.
Actually, in my experience so far (made it with 11 conducts to VS with
Asmodeus in tow and all Invocation artifacts) the only luck needed for
the eleven conduct ascension mentioned above involves finding a ring
to match the starting set before getting to fainting. There is of
course, the good luck in not finding a "gnome-with-a-wand-of-
lightning" type luck, but that's true for almost any Nethack game,
regardless of conducts. Staying alive until finding the matching ring
is all about playing carefully and quickly. Starting with a ring of
slow digestion and one of [ring of polymorph control, potion, wand, or
ring of polymorph] is all about starts***. And of course pudding
farming isn't so much about luck as it is about patience.
Incidentally, I am playing on NAO as Tenaya11 if anyone cares to
watch. Although I'm farming at the moment so I wouldn't expect it to
be very interesting. But at least my statistics are there for anyone
who cares. And this time I am _NOT_ going to cancel my Bell of
Opening!!!
