What I'm asking for is just the formula, a spoiler that says how
prices are calculated. So is there a formula on any of these sites?
Actually, the applet I gave you the link for has the formula. It's
not as simple as you would expect because there's also a random
surcharge or abatement part of the calculation.
I remember that bit. Sorry for not mentioning it. For use in the game, I
just have to keep in mind not to trust the first price I get.
For your convenience
here's the cost calculation copied from the applet where you find the
charisma part.
Thank you! :)
if (surcharge)
if (bad_conditions())
Ok, that's two things adding something. One is random, the other...
what?
[charisma adjustment]
That's a great help. Thanks.
I assume that's buying. Do I remember correctly that selling stuff just
gives the normal half base price? (Or at least without adjustment
outside charisma?)
(Or which file in the Nethack source has it?
If it fits you more have a look into file shk.c of the Nethack
package.
I think what you supplied here saves me trying to find it in there. :)
http://www.gridbug.de/prices.html
If that isn't a DOS program to download, then it's of no use.
You have to judge whether it is of use for you. But I have the
impression that you yet don't know what you are missing. :-)
I won't miss the need to save, wind down the computer, plug in the
windoze harddrive, boot windoze, start dialler and browser, wait ages
for it to get that done, and then deal with internet (I can't stand
internet). I'd rather just calculate the base price in my head, check
the spoiler until the info is once again logged into my memory, and
continue playing. :)
(Besides, an automatic calculator doesn't tell me the formula to just
calculate it myself while playing.
If you want to calculate that yourself then the applet is nothing for
you. (Personally I think that calculations of that type should be
done by software.)
<shrug>
It used to work fine to do it myself without having to stop the game.
If I want something doing the calculating, I prefer to put it together
myself (with Quick Basic <g>), that looks convenient for me to use, too
(other people's stuff tends to be awkward to use).
Well, the browser is just as awkward to start as the dialler; both
needs a reboot.
Also if you don't access the Internet??? - How that?
The only software I've got is for windoze. Booting that is the awkward
thing, never mind that I don't want to use windoze for anything. (It's
useless for anything else, too, except writing job applications because
the places I print them need some daft .doc file - I don't have a
printer.)
<digressing>
I've only got the dialler and browser (plus the windoze they need)
installed to do the looking-for-a-job from here rather than having to go
somewhere else (library with appointment, job-centre), as rebooting is
still less awkward than leaving the flat. And as it's installed anyway,
I also use it for things I actually really truly _want_, instead of
asking someone to get it for me (or ask people to send it to an adress
where I can download it without internet), but beyond that, you might as
well assume I don't have an internet access. :)
(I've lately had another look at DSL flatrates, after an aquaintance
said that it would run with OS/2, too, and that there's information on
how available. Prices kept me away again. I certainly don't want to pay
a penny more for that and normal phone than I do now. I quickly lost
interest in looking into that, though. I really can't stand internet, so
the motivation to get a permanent access is somewhere around zero.)
</digressing>
I really just want the formula. :)
See above. (If you want to know further details like
"bad_conditions()" feel free to ask or have a look into the applet or
Nethack source.)
I searched the shk.c for 'bad_conditions', but found nothing. Next I'll
just have the directory searched for that string. I would appreciate the
information from you (or whoever else volunteers it), but digging
through the files might be good practise, too. :) (I wish I knew C. But
I do remember it as rather friendly on the clueless, to read, not to
change. I also remember making levels (for Slash'EM) was fun, and much
easier.)
