Certainly not every detail. But what is the point of having an in-game
database when it often doesn't reveal anything helpful at all?

Sure.

Usually the Devteam have some idea of how a
certain monster works drawn from some source or other, and might expect
players to recognise the source and make guesses about the implications
in the game. The database often helps in making these connections, and
that is what I feel it is for.

However, sometimes those hints are not
consistent with the game and so are misleading.

If there are misleading entries or if they are non-consistent with the
game I'd issue a bug report.
