What can be objected to is that many of these entries don't actually
explain much. Often you just get some obscure quote, which, for me at
least, is discouraging to use the command. (I recently did a few times,
because I have forgotten a lot, but then stopped for lack of information
in it.)
That is a very good point. I seem to remember that I personally
switched from using farlook on new encounters to using learn-by-dying
and learn-by-spoiler after I got quoted an only vaguely relevant and
sometimes misleading passage of fantasy literature one too many times.
Of course, reworking the whole library to make it informative and still
keep it somehow stylish is not a task I would volunteer for. Experience
has shown that while the in-game sources of information (the library,
the guidebook[1] and the Oracle) can be used by unspoiled players to get
a good grip of the game, the "google for spoilers and ask other players"
approach is by far more workable. This may not be ideal.
