Re: [Spork] In over my head

Consider using a two-handed weapon, though Frost Brand is pretty good.
(I know, you're using the shield for reflection; just keep it in mind.)

My intrinsics include sleep, fire, cold, poison and disintegration
resistance, invisibility and see invisible, telepathy, speed, stealth,
and teleportitis.

Oh, dear. That last one is probably a lot nastier in Spork. You really
don't want to eat tengu until you're sure you can get control soon.

My AC is -11 -- not brilliant, I know, but I've only seen two scrolls of
enchant armor, one of which I wrote with most of a magic marker. I'm
also worried that my MC is too low at two.

-11 isn't terrible. MC2 is not good but at the same time isn't tragic.

I've got to the bottom of the quest, but Thoth Amon completely
overwhelmed me with summoned monsters and I had to get out straight
away. I dug to the Castle, cleaned it out (was hoping to kill everyone
with the drawbridge but it got stuck somehow...)

If you weren't gumming it up with all those smooshed monsters, it probably
wouldn't stick so badly. ;)

I've just killed Medusa, and I'm on her level. It has a titan; I know I
can take a titan out, but the ones I've taken out so far have been costly.

Do you _need_ to kill the titan to proceed?

I don't have any ranged attacks; this is probably a mistake.

This isn't _always_ a mistake, but it's more likely to be a mistake in
Spork since there are circumstances where you're really going to want
ranged weaponry. This is obviously one.

I have a wand of light to make conflict work,

Most monsters can arrange to see you in some fashion. If you're having
trouble with conflict, your Barbarian's CHA is probably a good place to
start looking...

and a can of grease to provide
protection from eels and MMFs. (Clearly it doesn't protect enough.)

It's pretty good for eels... lousy for MMFs.

What should I do now? I can't wish using the castle wand because I lost
my ?oCharging to a stupid typo. I can get back across Medusa by jumping,
and perseus also had levitation boots.

Do you need to go back at all?

Maybe I should try levitating and waiting til the Titan casts "fly" so I
can kill him over water, safe from summoned monsters. Would that work?

That is certainly one way to approach it, though I think he may still be
able to summon flying monsters.

PS Stupid typos so far: accidentally killing the only general store
shopkeeper in the game, spoiling price-iding. Pressing keypad-left at
the prompt for a throne wish, which spoiled the wish and gave me a
potion of sleeping instead of a shield of reflection. Falling into the
castle moat and blanking my scroll of charging. Un-id'd, so I can't
definitely write another :(

You can also write ELBIB YOLH as well as 'charging', I believe. Of
course this requires you to remember which description was charging...

PPS The new "destroy armor" spell is very, very nasty.

Meleeing titans in vanilla was not a particularly good idea; meleeing
titans in Spork is probably much less of a good idea.

Luckily it hasn't
affected anything which I definitely want for the ascension run - only
my displacement cloak and my dwarvish iron helm so far. (I can't
remember, but I remember the destroy armor spell telling me "your cloak
of displacement corrodes!" - shouldn't it say "rots"? And what would it
say for dragon scale mail? Maybe it should say "damaged".)

One of the known issues is that erosion messages are a bit weird. I am
holding off on fixing that 'til I get a chance to go through and route
_all_ object erosion through a single function.

Dragon scale mail "deteriorates".

Overall: Consider looting the Valley and first few levels of Gehennom to
see what you find. I know you need to finish the Quest still, but
there's no particular time limit; rather than try to force the issue
with holes in your equipment and items, you really want to try to shore
those up first.
