Rangers are hard, or "proper pet care"

*spoilers*
<Insert colourful language unsuitable for group here>
So, another promising Ranger walks up dejected to leave the dungeons, going up without the amulet. That's what I do when I kill my pet accidentily.
I'm running out of proper Elvish names. Elladan, Elrohir, Erestor, Glorfindel, Gwartad, Luthien and Lamathinn ALL killed their pet. It doesn't help that they named their dog "Bilbo" or "Arwen" or "Beren". That makes a connection.
I guess I'm not careful enough. But something always happens. The last one... I was absolutely *sure* that invisible monster wasn't my dog, and something was biting me in a corner without escape.
Then there is the issue of not being able to use the bow or daggers when your dog is off wandering around somewhere or behind your prey. Yeah, shoot one arrow at a time - but even that can miss. And that's a cockatrice coming up to me, *shudder*. And Stormbringer is the greatest pain of all.
I guess I need to be even *more* careful. Nethack sure teaches you to think before tapping a key :)
René.
