I agree that Nethack as it currently stands is broken in a number of
ways, and the resistance/reflection system needs looking at. I just
didn't want to start off this discussion by proposing too much!

Let's face it: for a (nearly) 4 year old roguelike 3.4.3 is pretty
advanced, but life has moved on since then and lots of clever people
in the roguelike world have come up with lots of clever ideas.
Nethack needs to evolve with the times in order to avoid becoming a
museum piece like Vanilla Angband.
