My neutral monk's still kicking about in the bottom of Gehennom and has
been for a couple of weeks now. My AC/HP is pretty much identical to
yours. I just thought I'd share the way I beat Master Kaen, which was
suggested to me by some very helpful people here (Eidolos and Rast,
iirc). I wished for a spellbook of drain life and had a blessed scroll
of earth from Sokoban. I went to his level, staying on the stairs, and
woke him up, retreating back up to the next level when he ported next
to me. Then I read my scroll of earth to create a boulder fort, and
kept casting drain life 'til he snuffed it. Easy as pie. The nice thing
about being a monk is you have warning, so you can see his warning
level dropping from 5 down to 2 (where he dies).
