How many people on this thread have advised me to "think it through"
and "use mental discipline" in one phrasing or another? I suggest you
do the same.

I also recommend you READ THE THREAD! Or don't post about what you
didn't read. I pressed "submit" *once* accidentally with some quoted
junk below my post, then quickly posted it again without the junk. I
*never* said anywhere in this thread that top-posting was a good idea
or that conventions didn't matter (except to argue that Google Groups
is a fine news reader). You should save this lecture on your hard
drive; someday it'll come in handy, but don't get overeager and blow
your load too early.
