Re: Are spoilers really spoilers?

Naah, I figure it's just more fun to know everything about the game. And
besides, whenever a new version comes out then fun part is discovering
all the new items and monsters and stuff. But yeah, in the mid 90s and
so when I had no spoilers..I sure did have to memorize all the poisonous
monsters, what causes hallu etc etc and I still loved the game =)

The crucial argument in favour of spoilers is made by your last
sentence there.

If you could play an infinite number of games and make copious notes of
your experiences, and analyse all the game events in those games to
derive a set of guidelines and reminders ... well, that would represent
a set of personal spoilers.

The spoilers that are available on the net, and in the collected wisdom
of this group, are mere compensation for the fact that you cannot alone
play an infinite number of games. So you get the benefit of eveyone
else's research and, still, you have no guarantee of sucess, but at
least you will know from where the axe fell.
