I'm having a hard time trying to identify things, can any of you give
some hints?

-scroll of identify (obviously)
-dip item into potion of enlightenment

Experiment!
use of detect curse spell (if uncursed wear or wield it)
zap wands if nothing happens try aiming them at a object or your self
(though that's risky :) )
