Just discovered the Crawl server. Very cool!

So did I, just now. Cool idea. I tried running it, and my display is
quite screwed up. Parts of the map don't get redrawn in the same place
on the screen consistently, and the text is put across the middle of
the map isntead of across the bottom. Is there a fix to this?

There are a couple of potential fixes. Can you let us know:

* what client you are using to connect
* from what OS
* what size your terminal is

I have Windows XP, using Mozilla Firefox - I just click on the link at
the top of the crawl.akrasiac.org page and Firefox starts up the
telnet connection - and by terminal do you mean the size of the DOS
window?

Let's see . . . full window, 8x12 font, 80x50 window size

Is that helpful?

Yes, it is, thanks. I'd recommend using PuTTY, available from
www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/ , in its telnet mode (CAO
does not allow SSH connections). PuTTY seems to handle the way that Crawl
redraws the screen better than the default windows telnet client; no one
who uses it has reported any trouble.

I don't have a Windows machine in front of me at the moment, so I can't
look into possible problems with Windows telnet from here; if you can't
use PuTTY or some other client (securecrt, teraterm, &c.) for some reason,
I can take a stab at that later tonight.
