Hello, all. I know this post would be more topical in
rec.games.roguelike.rogue, but that group is pretty much dead, and I'd
really like a response.
My problem is simple: I like to play roguelikes, and my computer is a
Mac. (It runs Mac OS 9, to be specific.) That isn't a problem when it
comes to modern roguelikes such as NetHack and Angband, whose
developers have been kind enough to make Mac binaries available. But
things get trickier when it comes to, say, the original Rogue.
I have only been able to find two Mac ports of Rogue. One is a little
watered-down and has graphics, both of which qualities are, I feel,
unacceptable. The other is so bare-bones it lacks support for movement
using the numeric keypad. Now, maybe I'm just being too picky, but it
seems rather odd to me that nobody has done a faithful, high-quality
port of such a classic. Does anybody know where I could get my hands on
such a port? I'd be eternally grateful if you directed me to one.
Have you had a look at my Rogue archive at
http://www.roguelikedevelopment.org/archive/index.php ?
There you will find
Rogue 3.0 by Marco Pontil (Mac) - mac-rogue-30.zip
Rogue ?.? by Epyx (Mac) (from mac.the-underdogs.org) - rogue.SIT
Rogue ?.? (Mac) - mac-rogue-30.hqx
Rogue Clone ver III (Mac) - roguemac.zip
Ultra Rogue 1.03 (Mac) - uroguemac.zip
Not sure what Mac OS version they run on though...

Björn
