I'm not really in the mood to argue about the "marketability" of
programming
languages, even less to engage in a flame war. My sole point is that
the OP
wants to write a roguelike, and he wants to do it for fun, not as a
training
method. He should choose a language that is fun and easy to learn.
Real men use C anyway.
I think both of you are right. C++/Java/etc means career-building,
hard-work, taking years to build something stone-solid. Interpreted
languages are fun, define the way your game should play and make it
just happen. It totally depends on his/her goals. He can always play
around a little with an interpreted language and when he thinks he's
in it for the long haul go and learn C++.
