Hello.
I'm pondering in which order I should put the elements of item names.
Why have +1 at all? The use of specific numbers to denote magical
strength is hangover from D&D, no?
an uncursed +1 pair of fire drake boots
If you do want to do it, this is the one true format. Adjectives
should be placed in order of how tightly they bind to the underlying
object. (Consider: small blue stick vs blue small stick) Uncursed,
IMHO, is weaker in binding than +1.
an uncursed pair of +1 fire drake boots
How do you expect to automatically generate this phrase? What is the
"name" of your fire drake boots? "pair of fire drake boots"?
a pair of uncursed +1 fire drake boots
ditto
a +1 uncursed pair of fire drake boots
+1 and uncursed are backwards here.
a pair of fire drake boots (+1, uncursed)
fire drake boots (+1, UC)
Yuck! Why not just throw out the baby while you're at it and have
footwear (AC 1, +1, uncursed, Fire Resist, Leather)?
It's disapointing seeing the amount of agreement there is for
transforming your items into just a spread*** entry! These are
people straining at the leash to rip away all of your flavour and go
straight to the numbers game behind. Ignore them. Make them actually
read your welcome text rather than paging through it under the
assumption that they just kill the bad guy and collect the foozle.
I guess I could just let the user decide by setting an option, but I
think there should be some "optimal" combination. I can't really decide
what parts are more important than others and should be put in a more
prominent location. The "a pair of" is the only thing that could be
removed, but that would take away some flavour.
A wise person once said: "If you can't chose between the options, they
must be equal, so just pick one at random." Do not give a user option
for such a trifling thing as this!
Even if he enables the option to change the order of item name elements, he chose an option by choosing a standard configuration. I would very much appriciate to be able to change this order in some games.
