Plot Heavy Lunch Break RL

Good evening,

I have just come up with a (potential) idea for a prequel/sequel for my
current RL project (that is IF it ever comes to light S-:) borrowed from
other games.

The purpose of the game itself would be to advance the plot, or bring more
background to S2H, however it wouldn't be hugely necessary to play. As the
purpose of it is to propel the plot, the game would have to reflect this.
What I am considering, would be to have the game as a series of maybe 3-5
mini-rl's (chapters if you recall me bringing them up early-mid last
year).

However, these chapters would only be connected by the story. Each
chapter would be a lunch-break-ish (longer then a coffee break,
shorter then any the really big RL's) roguelike, featuring a different PC
as the main character. The PCs would already be given a name, class and
probably start the game already very experienced. By finishing a chapter,
the next chapter would be made available to you. Chapter 1 would be still
availiable though - I think (from dim memory) Warcraft III does something
similar to this. Maybe the main PC may make an appearence if the two
stories were fairly chronologically close. There would be some replay
value from randomised dungeons and towns, but as its purpose is a plot
device, it wouldn't be as great as other RL's. The stories wouldn't
necessarily all end 'successfully' in the conventional sense, but once
again as it is a plot based RL, the successful endings would be fixed. For
it to be successful, mood would have to be used effectively. Once again,
this is all heavily subject to change, if it ever gets implemented at all.
But it would be a nice backstory.

Excuse the large amount below...

For example (using S2Hish plot):

Chapter 1: The invasion Part I
800 Years before S2H

A battered warrior from the outland's has ridden to the kings capital
heavily injured. He barely states where he is from and says a few bad
words about death etc. in his hometown from hellish creatures before
dying. You play the great knight Quaenaan, who rides at the kings request
to the mans village. There, you find demons terrorising the townspeople,
and a small army attempting to fight back (who lose before the chapter is
over). In the catacombs of the village church, you find unholy writings in
a language unknown, that you instantly understand. You are granted powers
to be able to destroy the demons, and return the book to your king, in
hope of advancing the great kingdom of Whitecrow.

Chapter 2: The invasion Part II
About 15 years after Chapter 1

The unholy army of Whitecrow has taken over much of the land, using a
hellish army. It seems that absolute power has corrupted the king and his
loyal follower Quaenaan quite absolutely. The player has started as
cannon-fodder in his hometown, with the explicit instructions to join the
defence lines and defend the country against the hell-driven quest. You,
and your squad seek out to kill the king. The army continues to move
towards your town through the length of the quest. Upon killing the King,
after participating in a huge battle, you make a vow with your companions
create a society to protect the Unholy Crown, Quaenaans Sword, The
elemental rings and the unholy scriptures (a la the illuminati in The
Da Vinci Code).

Chapter 3: A new enemy Part I
3 years preceding S2H

The secret society have been protecting the secret of Whitecrow for
near-on 800 years, carefully wiping the grim chapter from the worlds
history with hope that it never be repeated. But finally, the chain has
broken with the secret society fighting in turmoil. A member of the
society has been corrupted by the information he weilds, tempted by the
book, and 'enlightening' himself with it in secret. The player plays
a member known as 'Corrius', the character who steals the book. At the
start of the chapter, he is already slightly mutated, and wields a fair
bit of power. The player has to escape, hiding from the 2 remaining
members of the society, and constructing the Gate to Hell.

Chapter 4: A new enemy Part II
During Chapter 3

The player is one of the two remaining members of the secret organisation.
Taking Quaenaans swords with hopes of protecting himself, he follows
Corrius with his companion to the building where he intends of creating
the Gate to Hell. After observing him, they enter the building sensing the
trouble that could be very soon brewing. They must sneak into the building
unnoticed to not be destroyed by his quickly accumulating power. They
separate, with the player sacrificing himself using the powers granted to
him through the elemental rings to create a nano-technology 'virus' which
has the sole programming to close the gateway, at whatever cost. He makes
himself the first host of the hive that will hopefully be able to stop the
Shortcut.

Chapter 5: A new enemy Part III
When the two companions split

After the two companions split and go there seperate ways, the other
player has to face Corrius. He journeys up the mostly empty building,
knowing where the gate is being constructed while wielding the unholy
weapons in vein hope of defending himself and stopping the curse. As he
goes up, he is seen and attempts to fight. With seemingly no hope of
winning, he decides that he must get a message to the outside world.
Using the blade to write a sole word on his chest 'Help', he throws
himself off the building into the city below with the weapon lodged in his
chest...

(where he is found by a citizen who reports it when the PC is alerted,
just before the town is destroyed ready for the start of Shortcut to Hell)

Well, that was a wee bit more longwinded then intended, but I hope i've
been able to demonstrate what I was thinking. Comments?
