I have now played 3.1.1 up to stat-gain and here are few thoughts:
Item drops are now _TOO_ small. Reducing junk should not mean that there are
no items at all. At least uniques with item drop should drop item always.
I agree. I think item drops should be doubled at least, probably tripled or
more. However, in addition, armor and weapons need to have their rarities
increased sufficiently so that fewer of them drop than are currently being
dropped.
I think that the underlying problem is that TMJ is a *good* thing, but only in
combination with well-integrated squelch. If there are enough potions of
restore stat to be useful when you need them, they count as TMJ when you don't.
The change in drops has made it more important to collect items from the
floor, and less important to kill things. That makes vaults more important.
I do not know whether this is good or bad from a game design perspective.
I prefer to get stuff from kills rather than from the floor.
Item drop depth is no longer variable based on monster depth and dungeon
depth, but whichever is higher. That clearly doesn't work as it should
(improved drops deeper), so may I suggest that old system where it was average
between two is re-introduced. Maybe emphasis in dungeon depth ((dlvl*2 +
mlvl)/3).
Sounds good to me.
Armors are way too cheap in shops. Something like wand of confuse monster
sells for more than low-level ego armor. Compared to weapons and magical items
armors are now worth pretty much nothing unless it is something *really* good
(in which case you don't sell it).
Prices have been reworked for wieldables.
Other item prices have not changed to compensate.
There is a better solution than worrying about something selling for the wrong
price. If you ask nicely, I'll go on and on about it. :)
I got my first RoS +3 at 1500' and soon after that BoS +8. Are speed-items now
more common or am I just lucky?
The ring is just luck, I think. I haven't noticed anything extra in terms of
RoS. OTOH, BoS are much more common now.
