Oddly I have never considered Adunaphel a threat. Annoyance, yes, but
deadly opponent, no. Maybe there is something undetermined in my playing
style that makes him non-issue. I can't say what though.

Every time I've survived deep enough to encounter Adunaphel, she's been a significant problem; it's nowhere near safe to ignore her when she's in LOS (much less adjacent), particularly if you also want to fight other critters at the same time, and there's no way to get rid of her long enough to do very much without leaving the level - so any level where she shows up is effectively lost... and even that's assuming you can make it to an appropriate staircase in time, which hasn't always been the case.
