If by "deleted" you mean "removed from the current level" (rather than
"removed from the current game entirely"), I'd probably agree with you.

We could rationalize this as they fall to next unknown level due to earthquake-effect of destruction. Same could apply to earthquake too (earthquake can destroy uniques unless they have pass-wall or eat-wall ability. I have used that several times to clean checkerboard vaults that are guarded by too dangerous monsters).
