Oh, and in case anyone's wondering: RISC OS is stored on ROM

Good GRIEF. Even waiting to have a CD shipped (or having to burn one) to
update and patch the OS would be bad enough. Now either you have to ship
them your computer for them to patch it, or you need to know how to solder?

[snip yet more point-missing]

Most upgrades these days are sent out as softloads run on startup. The
ROM is the base - the bit with the BASIC interpreter, and all that, and
the bit that's run if you 'shift-boot' (i.e. just run from ROM).

Also, we mustn't forget that not all operating systems are willingly
released by their creators while still known to be full of bugs or
before undergoing proper testing, after which the poor users are made to
put up with it for months before the company releases a 'service pack'.
If you've used Vista you'll know what I mean.

Why don't you actually go back to Google and use it to find some useful
information on RISC OS, instead of just randomly slagging off an
operating system you know nothing about? This tendency is one of the
points I was trying to make earlier.
