Somebody seems to have mistaken Usenet for boot camp, and himself for
drill sergeant. Meanwhile, somewhere else, there are several
psychologists hunched over a desk staring into a monitor in fascination.

When he is shown a reason why he cannot be right, he ignores it
completely. Also note complete refusal to get up off his *** and go
and do some research in the areas helpfully pointed to by the poster.

your hostility, mine was in response to a *hostile* post, so it was
*not* uncalled-for.

Flat refusal to accept that he may have started an argument, and attempt
to assert that he was only defending himself against other people's

So you can see why Sherm made the mistake.

Oh, and in case anyone's wondering: RISC OS is stored on ROM inside the
computer. The only bits stored on hard disk are a configuration and
general file storage facility called the 'Boot'. Even if this does get
fiddled about with - which is impossible unless you're actually *trying*
to mess up your computer - the computer is capable of running just from
ROM - with reduced functionality such as an inability to configure the
screen mode, but more than enough to solve any problems.

The 'zero page' mentioned (and ignored) in an earlier post is the
contents at address zero in RAM, which is volatile and therefore cured
of any 'scribbling' on a machine reset. Zero page is an illegal address
under RISC OS 4 and later (itself more than eight years old now -
Harriet happens to use a particularly ancient version of the operating
system from 1992, pre-dating even 3D windows).

Now can we please all calm down, put those toys away, and let's have no
more of this silliness.
