Nick.

Blah, I've been reading this thread with quite a bit of interest but not
participating, but I guess it is more useful for people to get feedback from
general users than not.

I like usenet, particularly through the rgra portal. It's laid out in a way I
like, the threading (apart from bizarre double threads that happen from time to
time) is good, the flagging of recent comments is good -- it simply works well
enough for me, and at a glance I can get a gauge of what I do and don't want to
read. My brain works as a far better noise filter than a killfile anyway, and I
can get on top of the things that interest me in seconds.

I haven't once posted, and only once looked, at the forums. It's not that forum
software isn't pretty good these days, but it is more of a case of "If it ain't
broke, don't fix it" - I just like the usenet portal enough not to want to
change. I am aware however that I could miss a bunch of important announcements,
feedbacks, comments, features and other stuff I fail to mention. Meh, not a
problem that bugs me much, but it does seem to have an unnecessarily large
chance of causing confusion or me to be behind on *band info.

That said, I also have an interest in spreading Angband to new people, and it
must be said that for people that are only getting a real online presence more
recently, forum packages are a _far_ more common environment than newsgroups -
perhaps this is important as well for the reason of bandvangelism?

Probably not use in the grand scheme of things, but that's my 2p :)
