-V- Display floor stacks in a list option not working with pickup?

I'm using Vanilla version 3.0.6, patched to destroy wands/staves on
failed recharge.
It seems to me like the "Display floor stacks in a list" option has no
effect on the "pickup" command. I normally play with "pick up things
by default" turned off. If I'm standing on a pile of objects, and type
'g' to pick something up out of the pile, rather than prompting me for
which item to pick up, the game attempts to pick up everything in the
stack.
This is annoying. Especially late in the game, where I'm often
clearing out huge piles of items and there are only a small number of
items I actually want to grab.
An alternative would be to have an option for the "pickup" command to
only pick up the top item in the stack, the way most of the other
commands work. For me, this would be great, because my usual way of
operating with item stacks is to identify each item, and destroy it if
it's not interesting. This is a habit from older versions of Angband
where items wouldn't stack and thus keeping the floor tidy was
important for maximizing item drops.
I really don't want to turn on "Prompt before picking things up" and
answer yes/no on each item. It would be much better for me to be able
to pick up the top-most item in the stack. I'll destroy my way down to
the interesting objects if I have to.
I have a couple of other complaints with the way that movement and item
pickup work.
I really think that "Display floor stacks in a list" should be a
separate option from "Don't list all items when walking into a square."
I like to be able to walk around a room with lots of stacks of items
on the floor without being interrupted by "- more -" messages because
some of the stacks are large. But when I'm issuing commands (like
casting Identify on items on the floor, or picking up), I'd rather have
the top item in the stack be used as a target automatically. So it
seems like these should be separate options.
It would be nice if there were a way to pick up certain classes of
"interesting" objects by default, without having first inscribed that
particular object. What I'm specifically thinking of is an option to
automatically pick up any object that will stack with objects you're
already carrying. That way, you could automatically pick up extra
spell books, potions of healing, etc. if you're already carrying them.
It would be like having "=g" already inscribed on anything that will
stack with what you're carrying. Even better would be a way to
configure the game to autopickup certain objects even if you're not
already carrying them, but you need a config file or some kind of UI
for this, which seems complicated.
So to summarize:
- Display floor stacks in a list should apply to "pickup" (or there
should be a new option that does this)
- There should be an option to only pick up a single item at a time.
- There should be separate options for prompting for an item to
interact with and for listing all the objects when you walk over a
square.
- Having a more powerful way to autopickup uninscribed items would be
nice.
I don't have fixes for these yet, but looking at the object code, some
of these things look like they're relatively easy to accomplish. If I
posted patches, would anybody be interested in trying them out?
